Triangles

Robbie has known his colors since he was about 11 months old (before he could talk, we'd ask him to stand on the yellow felt square and he'd go right to it), he has known his alphabet since he could say several words together (around 16 months old), and now he can tell you what letter Alligator starts with or what letter Pear starts with, but he's never been really great at his shapes. He knows the basic circle, square, triangle and diamond. But if they aren't just single, very obvious shapes, forget it... everything is a square. And he really doesn't have a lot of interest in getting it right. He'd rather sing you his aphabet.

So, grandma sends him another box this weekend. The "Yellow Box" was a big hit and we have "Yellow Day" practically every other day. The box this weekend was triangles... and Robbie loved it! He got triangle boxes, a musical triangle, triangles to stick, glue and stamp... even a t-shirt with a sail boat made of triangles.

He enjoyed looking through it and I had to promise him a day that we would do gluing. But we had to put everything away so we could go run errands. He briefly declared on the way out the door that today was triangle day... but it wasn't really heart felt and I didn't dwell on it.

Triangle Box from Grandma

Then at lunch (he, of course, ordered calamari), the waitress - who thought Robbie was the greatest (and he is) - spoiled Robbie with a special ice cream sundae and a lobster necklace. Robbie would have made Grandma proud with his strong will to finish every last bite of his ice cream sundae. We had to cut him off. But then, our son, once again amazes us. He's playing with his necklace and suddenly (very proudly I should add) announces that he has made a triangle!
