Calamari for Lunch

"Calamari for Lunch" doesn't seem like a phrase you hear very often. Then think about how often a two year old says it. I can tell you that our two year old says it, on average, about three or four times a day.

Whether he is requesting "Calamari for lunch"... this can happen in the morning, at the appropriate lunch time... or at dinner, this is often his food of choice. He will negotiate with you, however, and try to get you to add grapes, raisins, cereal, or a combination. Nevertheless, Calamari is what he orders at a restaurant. Doesn't matter if they have it on the menu (it of course, is never on HIS menu). I have no doubt that if we ever took him to McDonalds, his request would be Calamari. Sorry, McDonald workers, you won't get to experience this, however, because I am still bent on keeping him away from your restaurant as long as possible.

He could also be saying it as he pushes his cars around his road rug as he did this morning. Because, of course, all cars have to stop... park in the parking lot and have "Calamari for lunch". This is a good tip for playing with Robbie... if you aren't sure if he is accepting your form of play, add the phrase "Calamari for lunch" and you are a shoo-in as his favorite playmate.

Or it could be in a song. The song often starts out with "Yummy, Yummy, Calamari" and somewhere in the song you will hear the verse "Calamari for lunch".
Another tip, don't sing along!

Of course, some of this seems like a bit of an exaggeration... and it is. The part about being a shoo-in for his favorite playmate is false... doesn't matter what you say to him, you can only play by following his rules and only after he has invited you.
